Welcome to First Presbyterian Church! We’re a friendly and welcoming congregation, and we hope you feel right at home. We offer these questions and answers to address some of the common questions people have when joining us.
What is worship like?
Sunday worship lasts about an hour and follows Presbyterian liturgy. We confess our sins, sing hymns, hear a sermon, profess our faith, and pray. Even if you’ve never been to a Presbyterian church, some of the service may seem familiar to you. Everything you need to worship can be found in the weekly service bulletin or in the pew; no need to bring anything with you! We take the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday of each month, on Maundy Thursday, Easter Sunday, and Christmas Eve. For more detail on our services, see our Worship page, the calendar, or check out our archive of recorded livestreams.
What are members of First Pres like?
Members of First Presbyterian are friendly and inviting. We’re like a family. Some people come every week, some come once a month, and some come when they can. Some have even found their closest friends in this congregation. There are congregants of all different personalities and persuasions, but all will be glad to have you worshipping with us.
Can I take Communion?
We practice open communion. All who accept Christ as their Savior are welcome to partake. The host and cup are gluten-free and non-alcoholic, and servers bring Communion to the pews. The cup is individual; we do not use a common cup.
Do you have children’s church?
Although we don’t currently offer children’s church, coloring books and activities can be found at the back of the sanctuary. Grab some on your way in! We also have a nursery with a changing table, cribs, and toys for use during the service.
When should I arrive for worship?
The organ prelude begins a few minutes before the service, which is when most people head into the sanctuary. You are also welcome to come to Sunday morning Bible Study or join us for fellowship.
What should I wear?
Dress in whichever way you feel most comfortable for worship. Most people wear chinos or slacks and a button down or blouse. Our service features standing and sitting a few times per service: “stand as you are able in body or in spirit.”
Where do I go?
If you park in the front lot, simply head through the big burgundy doors under the porch of the sanctuary. If you park in the rear, enter through the rear gate and follow the signs to the sanctuary. If you’re unsure of where to go, anyone will be happy to direct you.
